Design: The beaks feature a distinct "cow horn" shape—sharp and pointed—which is designed to fit precisely into the bifurcation (the dividing point) between the mesial and distal roots.
Functionality: When the dentist squeezes the handles, the sharp beaks are forced into the root furcation. This wedging action firmly engages the roots and acts as an elevator, lifting and loosening the tooth from the alveolar bone before any luxation (rocking) or rotational movements are applied.
